Snickersville Academy Tours Get Big Play
in Purcellville Gazette Article on 2011 Bluemont Fair
When the Purcellville Gazette covered the 2011 Bluemont Fair, held on September17-18, they did so in wonderful detail and giving it front-page placement. The story leads with Friends of Bluemont's first-ever guided tours of the Snickersville Academy and goes on to the 6.2 mile race and this year's outstanding pie and pickle contest.
"...One of the larger draws of the weekend was the guided tour of the Snickersville Academy that was built in 1825. This tiny log building was the first schoolhouse and church in the village. This was an opportunity for the community to tour the structure that is not normally accessible...." ...more... |

The Several Stories of Carrington House
I never found Carrington House, Carrington House found me.
When I first saw pictures of the house in the summer of 2003—sent to me in the mail by a realtor in Middleburg when I was living in Washington, D.C.—I’d never bought a house before, I’d never heard of Bluemont, and I’d never driven on a highway in America.
Shortly after I called her to say I wanted to see the house, I found the directions to Bluemont off the internet, I hired a car from M Street Avis, and set off with friends to claim what I sensed I knew was already mine. ...more... |

1977 Directory: The United Methodist Church: Hillsboro, Bluemont, Roszell Chapel:
Loudoun County, Virginia
Only a few of the 32-page 1977 United Methodist church directories -- which include Hillsboro, Bluemont and Roszell Chapel under one cover -- still survive. Judy Anderson of Bluemont lent her copy to BluemontVA.org so that it could be scanned in and shared over the internet with friends near and far. The Directory supplies greeting from the pastor, Dr. Garland Wayne Jordan, a brief history of each of the three churches, photos of choir and musicians, portraits of the families of the church, and a membership list of each church. ...Bluemont pages... ...Hillsboro pages... ...Roszell Chapel pages...

If YOUR House Could Talk
Does your house have a story to tell?
In 2009, Friends of Bluemont launched a new project—“If
This House Could Talk” —to spotlight
homes or other buildings of the Bluemont area – houses
up on the mountain, down in the village, and nearby. We
will be taking photos, collecting stories, and scanning
historic photographs and documents.
Most of Bluemont is outside of the village itself. We'd
love to hear from anyone in the 20135 zip code, or just
beyond the official boundary, with something interesting
to tell.
